What is the DAISY Award?
The DAISY Program is designed to say thank you to the nursing profession, as truly "unsung heroes", honoring the super-human work nurses perform at the bedside every day. Nurses are recognized with the "The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses" and other gifts as well as name recognition with MSN, our clients and the DAISY Foundation.

DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. In 1999 the Foundation was formed by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who at age 33 died of complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). The DAISY Foundation was established to keep Patrick's spirit alive. In Patrick's memory his family started The DAISY Program to recognize the skillful and amazingly compassionate care he received from his nurses. The award is in collaboration with the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) and has the support of The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program.

MSN is proud to be one of the few organizations participating in The DAISY Program, recognizing nurses from around the country every month.

Who is eligible for the DAISY Award?
Any RN or LPN/LVN is eligible and can be nominated by their branch office. Nominated nurses are often referred to as the kind of nurse that other nurses say " I would want this nurse to take care of my family members."

Traits and actions that are looked for include a skilled clinician, a true patient advocate, demonstration of mentoring, excellent interpersonal skills with peers and coworkers, someone who continually goes above and beyond to meet the physical, emotional and psychological needs of his/her patients and an MSN nurse representative who exemplifies the mission, vision and values of Medical Staffing Network.

Each DAISY Award recipient receives:

• An Award Certificate proclaiming her/him an "Extraordinary Nurse"
• A special DAISY Award Pin
• A hand carved Shona sculpture entitled "A Healers Touch"
• Each DAISY Nurse will also receive national recognition for their work and be listed on the DAISY website, www.DAISYfoundation.org. Additionally each quarter, Nurses Week and Nursing Spectrum feature The DAISY Award and Nurse.com has a full page of selected DAISY Nurse Spotlights from each of its regions.
• In addition to the gifts given to each DAISY Award recipient, every presentation features Cinnabon cinnamon rolls for the entire office and a banner of congratulations is hung in the branch for a month.
• Nominees will receive a special "Nominee" recognition pin.
